SUMMERDALE, AL (BuzzReport) — A deadly single-vehicle crash in Summerdale has claimed the lives of two people, authorities said. Investigators believe the victims were traveling southbound in a white sedan when, for reasons that remain under investigation, the vehicle left the roadway. According to investigators, the sedan traveled approximately 100 yards after leaving the roadway before striking a culvert. The impact sent the vehicle airborne before it crashed into a utility pole. Two people inside the vehicle were killed in the violent crash. Summerdale Police Chief Michael Gaull said the identities of the two victims are not being released at this time. Authorities said both victims were from North Alabama. Information surrounding why the vehicle left the roadway remain under investigation. Investigators are working to determine the events leading up to the crash and whether speed, driver condition, roadway conditions or other factors played a role. Authorities are expected to release additional information as the investigation continues and family notifications are completed.
