MOBILE, Ala. (BuzzReport) — With Alabama’s 2026 gubernatorial race tightening and national political attention focused on the state, former U.S. Senator and federal prosecutor Doug Jones brought his campaign directly to voters Friday, holding town hall-style campaign stops in Mobile and Daphne as President Donald Trump rallied his supporters across town in Mobile.

Jones, a Democrat challenging Republican candidate Tommy Tuberville, drew hundreds of people to his two Gulf Coast events, where he outlined his vision for Alabama, answered questions and listened to concerns from residents.

The timing of the appearances created a sharp political contrast. While Trump used his Mobile rally to energize Republican voters and promote his party’s candidates, Jones spent the day making a case for a different direction for Alabama and emphasizing issues he says affect families regardless of political affiliation.

During the town halls, Jones continued to focus his campaign message on affordability, economic opportunity, healthcare and putting more money into the pockets of Alabama families.

“Jones is focused on making Alabama better for the people, by making life more affordable, more money in our pockets, jobs, and healthcare,” said Bobby Jackson, who attended one of the events.

Jones also used the campaign stops to continue criticizing Tuberville, particularly over the Republican candidate’s plans involving data centers and the endorsements surrounding his campaign.

The Democratic candidate has increasingly portrayed the race as a choice between his approach to governing Alabama and what he describes as Tuberville’s close alignment with Trump and national Republican politics.

“Jones understands Alabama. Tuberville is just another Trump ally that will destroy our state,” said Holly Miller.

The competing campaign messages highlight what could become one of the most closely watched gubernatorial contests in Alabama in years. Tuberville enters the race with strong Republican support and the backing of Trump, while Jones is attempting to build a coalition of Democrats, independents and voters dissatisfied with the direction of state and national politics.

For Jones, the Gulf Coast stops were about more than delivering a campaign speech. The town hall format allowed residents to raise questions, express frustrations and discuss the issues they believe should be priorities for the next governor.

Jones repeatedly emphasized the importance of voter participation, arguing that campaign promises and political debates ultimately mean little if citizens do not participate in the election.

“But in order to bring change to Alabama, the people must vote,” one supporter emphasized.

The gubernatorial contest comes at a pivotal moment for Alabama voters, with affordability, healthcare, jobs, economic development and the future direction of the state emerging as major campaign issues.

The Alabama general election is scheduled for November 3, 2026.

As the campaign moves into its final stretch, both Jones and Tuberville are expected to intensify their efforts to reach voters across Alabama. The Gulf Coast, traditionally a Republican stronghold, could become an important battleground for Jones as he attempts to turn Democratic enthusiasm and voter concerns into support at the ballot box.

For Alabama voters, the choice is becoming increasingly defined: whether to continue with the Republican leadership represented by Tuberville or elect Jones and pursue the changes he says are necessary to make Alabama more affordable and economically secure for working families.

Ultimately, the decision will rest with Alabama voters on Election Day.
