SEMMES, AL. (BuzzReport) — A Sunday night shooting in Semmes has turned deadly after the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that 48-year-old Christopher Shires died from his injuries.

Deputies were called around 10 p.m. to the 6000 block of Cynthia Drive after receiving a report of a shooting.

When deputies arrived, they found 24-year-old James Agee lying in the roadway suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to his torso and extremities. Shires was found on a back porch with a gunshot wound to the head, according to investigators.

Both men were transported to USA Health University Hospital with life-threatening injuries. Agee underwent emergency surgery and remains in critical condition.

According to investigators, Agee’s mother was previously in a relationship with Shires. Authorities said the woman told deputies that an argument began after Shires accused her of cheating and allegedly pointed a firearm through a bathroom door.

Investigators said the woman hid behind a trash can before later hearing gunshots. She told deputies that when she stood up, she discovered her son in the roadway.

Based on the preliminary investigation, authorities believe Shires shot Agee before turning the firearm on himself.

Multiple firearms and shell casings were recovered at the scene. Investigators are also working to preserve and review available residential security-camera footage as they continue piecing together what happened.

Anyone with information that could assist investigators is asked to contact the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office at 251-574-8633.
