DAPHNE, Ala. (BuzzReport) — A serious manhunt is underway in Daphne following an attempted bank robbery Friday afternoon involving a suspect who police say was armed with a handgun and wearing a mask.

The Daphne Police Department is actively investigating the incident at Merchants & Marine Bank on U.S. Highway 98.

According to police, the suspect entered the bank at approximately 12:50 p.m. Friday wearing all-black clothing and a black ski mask. The man was reportedly armed with a handgun and demanded money from bank employees.

However, despite the suspect’s demands, police say he did not leave the bank with any money.

The suspect fled the bank on foot and was last seen traveling southbound on Main Street, prompting officers to launch an immediate search of the surrounding area.

Police Chief Brian Gulsby confirmed that the incident remains an active investigation as officers work to locate and identify the suspect.

Suspect Considered Armed And Dangerous

Authorities are warning members of the public not to approach or attempt to confront the suspect.

Police say the man should be considered armed and dangerous because he reportedly had a handgun during the attempted robbery.

An update from investigators indicates that the suspect was wearing a black, full-body workout suit, along with a mask that concealed his face.

No injuries were reported during the incident.

Investigators are examining available evidence and working to determine the suspect’s movements before and after he entered the bank. Police are also asking anyone who may have been in the area around the time of the robbery to come forward.

Police Ask Public For Help

Anyone who witnessed suspicious activity near Merchants & Marine Bank, U.S. Highway 98, Main Street, or surrounding areas shortly before or after the attempted robbery is encouraged to contact investigators.

Police are particularly interested in information about anyone who may have seen the suspect fleeing on foot or observed a suspicious vehicle or person in the area.

This remains an active and ongoing investigation, and additional information may be released as detectives continue working to identify and locate the suspect.

Residents are urged to remain alert and allow law enforcement to handle the search. Anyone who spots a person matching the suspect’s description should not approach the individual and should instead immediately contact law enforcement.

The investigation remains ongoing, and the suspect has not been reported captured at this time.
