“Handfuls” Of Cash Lead To Nearly $400,000 Theft Investigation

Bay Minette, AL (BuzzReport) — What investigators describe as a months-long theft investigation has led to the arrest of a Baldwin County woman after nearly $400,000 in cash was reportedly stolen from a private residence.

The investigation began Tuesday, August 25, 2026, when the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office received a report concerning a substantial amount of U.S. currency allegedly taken from a home.

According to investigators, the victims reported that approximately $400,000 had been stolen and identified their cleaning employee as the primary suspect.

Investigators subsequently identified the suspect as 28-year-old Tabitha White of Bay Minette.

Investigators Say Cash Was Taken Over Several Months

During an interview with investigators, White allegedly admitted that she had taken cash from the residence over an extended period of time.

According to the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office, White told investigators that she took “handfuls” of cash while cleaning the victims’ residence.

The statement reportedly became a significant part of the investigation as detectives worked to determine how much money had been taken and what happened to the allegedly stolen funds.

Rather than investigators finding evidence of one large theft occurring at a single time, the investigation reportedly uncovered allegations involving repeated thefts over several months.

Investigators Follow The Money

As detectives continued examining the case, they allegedly discovered evidence that White had used some of the stolen money to purchase a variety of items.

That information ultimately led investigators to obtain and execute a search warrant at White’s residence.

During the search, investigators seized documents associated with purchases, along with numerous items they believe were purchased using proceeds from the alleged theft.

The property seized reportedly included vehicles, four-wheelers, electronics, lawn equipment, construction supplies and other items.

The breadth of the property recovered became another important component of the investigation as authorities worked to determine which purchases were connected to the allegedly stolen money.

Elderly Financial Exploitation Charge

White was subsequently charged with one felony count of Financial Exploitation of the Elderly.

Authorities have indicated that the investigation remains active and that additional charges could be filed as investigators continue reviewing the evidence.

The financial exploitation charge underscores the seriousness of the allegations, particularly because the case involves a substantial amount of money and victims who authorities say are elderly.

However, the allegations remain allegations unless and until proven in court. White is entitled to due process and the presumption of innocence throughout the legal proceedings.

Multiple Sheriff’s Office Units Involved

The Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office said the investigation required cooperation between several divisions of the agency.

The department credited the work of its Patrol Division, Investigations Division, Rural Enforcement Unit and Law Enforcement Support Services Division with helping move the investigation forward.

The cooperation between those units allowed investigators to develop information about the alleged theft, identify property believed to have been purchased with the proceeds and execute the search warrant at the suspect’s residence.

Investigation Remains Active

With the investigation still underway, authorities have not ruled out additional developments.

Investigators are expected to continue reviewing financial records, purchase documents and other evidence recovered during the search as they work to determine the full extent of the alleged theft.

Authorities may also seek to establish a complete timeline of the alleged offenses and determine whether additional property or transactions can be connected to the missing money.

For now, White faces one felony charge, but the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office says the case remains active.
