Chase Bodiford Arrested in Fatal June Crash That Killed 72-Year-Old Alan Grantham

MOBILE, AL (BuzzReport) — A 25-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a June traffic accident that claimed the life of 72-year-old Alan Grantham at the intersection of Schillinger Road South and Cottage Hill Road.

Authorities identified the suspect as Chase Bodiford, who was arrested on Saturday, August 22, nearly two months after the deadly collision.

The crash happened on Saturday, June 20, 2026, at approximately 11:50 a.m., when officers responded to the intersection following reports of a serious traffic accident.

When officers arrived, they discovered a male victim deceased at the scene.

According to investigators, a pickup truck was traveling southbound on Schillinger Road when it allegedly ran a traffic light at the intersection with Cottage Hill Road. The pickup then collided with a vehicle traveling westbound on Cottage Hill Road.

Grantham was a passenger in the vehicle that was struck. Despite the emergency response, he was pronounced dead as a result of the crash.

The driver of the vehicle carrying Grantham was transported to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

The initial investigation focused on the circumstances surrounding the traffic signal violation and the events that led to the collision. At the time, authorities said the investigation remained active as detectives worked to determine the full circumstances of the crash.

The arrest of Bodiford on August 22 represents a significant development in the case, more than eight weeks after Grantham’s death.

The deadly collision has now moved from an active traffic investigation to a criminal case involving an identified and arrested suspect.

Authorities have not indicated whether additional charges could be filed as the case progresses.

The case remains under investigation, and additional details concerning Bodiford’s charges, bond, and court proceedings may become available as the legal process moves forward.
