Car Crashes Through Daphne Home After Fentanyl Overdose; Driver Arrested

Daphne, Alabama (BuzzReport) — A Thursday evening in a Daphne neighborhood turned into a chaotic scene after a car crashed directly into a home, penetrating an unoccupied bedroom before tearing through the opposite side of the residence and coming to rest in the front yard.

Daphne police say 32-year-old Austin Mamuscia was behind the wheel of the Kia sedan when it crashed into a home on Buena Vista Drive shortly after 7 p.m. Thursday.

According to investigators, Mamuscia was experiencing a fentanyl overdose at the time of the crash. When officers arrived, they reportedly found him unconscious behind the wheel.

Emergency responders administered Narcan, which revived Mamuscia. Police subsequently determined they had probable cause to arrest him on suspicion of driving under the influence.

The crash caused significant damage to both the vehicle and the residence. The Kia struck a corner of the house with enough force to penetrate an unoccupied bedroom, then continued through the structure and exited through an adjacent side of the home before finally coming to rest in the front yard.

Fortunately, the bedroom was unoccupied when the vehicle tore through the residence, potentially preventing an even more serious outcome.

During the investigation, officers reported finding drug paraphernalia in plain view, along with a small amount of fentanyl and a bottle of synthetic urine. The items were documented as part of the investigation.

Mamuscia was treated at the scene by Daphne FireMedics before being transported to a local hospital for evaluation of minor injuries. Following his medical evaluation, he was taken into custody and is currently being held at Baldwin County Corrections.

Police say Mamuscia faces a lengthy list of charges stemming from the crash and the evidence allegedly discovered at the scene.

Those charges include Possession of a Controlled Substance, Driving Under the Influence of a Controlled Substance, Reckless Endangerment, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Possession of Synthetic Urine, Driving While Suspended, No Insurance, Expired Tag, and Reckless Driving.

Authorities have not indicated whether anyone inside the home was injured.

The investigation remains ongoing.
