MOBILE, Ala. (BuzzReport) — A female pedestrian was killed early Sunday morning after being struck by a vehicle in the 7700 block of Rangeline Road near Hamilton Boulevard, according to authorities.

Officers with the Mobile Police Department and deputies with the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene of a serious traffic accident shortly after it was reported. Upon arrival, first responders discovered that a female pedestrian had been hit by a vehicle.

Despite emergency response efforts, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash prompted a lengthy investigation and forced the closure of a portion of Rangeline Road as law enforcement officers worked to document the scene, collect evidence, and determine the circumstances leading up to the fatal collision.

Authorities remained on scene for several hours Sunday morning. The roadway was eventually reopened to traffic at approximately 6:00 a.m. after investigators completed their initial examination.

At this time, officials have not released the identity of the victim, pending notification of next of kin. Information regarding the driver involved, including whether any charges are expected, has also not been made public.

Investigators are continuing to examine the events surrounding the crash, including factors that may have contributed to the collision. Authorities said the cause of the accident remains under investigation and that additional details will be released as they become available.

Fatal pedestrian crashes remain a significant concern across Alabama, particularly along heavily traveled roadways where visibility, traffic volume, and other conditions can increase the risk of serious accidents.
