MONTGOMERY, Ala. (BuzzReport) — A Montgomery man accused of rape and multiple violations of Alabama’s sex offender laws has been taken into custody following an operation conducted by the Montgomery Police Department’s Special Response Team. According to authorities, 46-year-old Terry Knight was apprehended on May 19, 2026, by members of the MPD Special Response Team, commonly known as SRT, on outstanding felony warrants. Police said Knight was wanted on one count of Rape in the First Degree, along with four counts of violating the Alabama Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act, often referred to as ASORNA. The Alabama Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act imposes strict legal requirements on registered sex offenders, including residency restrictions, reporting obligations, and mandatory registration updates with law enforcement agencies. Violations of the law are considered serious criminal offenses and can result in additional felony charges and enhanced penalties. Authorities have not yet released further details regarding the underlying rape allegation or the circumstances surrounding the alleged sex offender registration violations. Following his arrest, Knight was transported and booked into the Montgomery County Detention Facility, where he remains in custody pending further court proceedings. The Montgomery Police Department has not announced whether additional charges could be forthcoming as the investigation continues. First-degree rape is among the most serious violent felony offenses under Alabama law and carries the possibility of significant prison time if convicted. Likewise, repeated violations of sex offender registration laws can lead to substantial penalties, especially when tied to individuals already classified under state monitoring requirements. Officials have not released bond information at this time.
