Rankin County, MS (BuzzReport)— A deadly barricade situation in Rankin County ended in tragedy after two people were shot and killed and the suspected gunman was later found dead inside a residence, according to authorities.

The incident unfolded in the 1400 block of Monterrey Road near Florence, where deputies with the Rankin County Sheriff’s Department responded to reports of a violent domestic-related situation.

Rankin County Sheriff Bryan Bailey confirmed that the suspect barricaded himself inside the home following the deadly shootings. Authorities said the two victims killed were family members who were somehow related to the suspect, though investigators have not yet released their identities pending notification of relatives.

Law enforcement officers surrounded the residence for several hours as they attempted to bring the tense situation to a peaceful resolution. During the standoff, heavily armed deputies secured the area while negotiators worked to communicate with the suspect inside the home.

Officials later confirmed that the barricaded suspect was also dead. It has not yet been disclosed whether the suspect died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound or during the law enforcement response.

Monterrey Road remains completely shut down as investigators process the scene and gather evidence. Authorities are urging motorists to avoid the area and seek alternate routes while the investigation continues.

The Rankin County Sheriff’s Department has not yet released additional details surrounding what led to the shootings or the events that escalated into the deadly barricade situation.

This remains an active and ongoing investigation. The Buzz Report will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available.
