ECLECTIC, AL (BuzzReport) — A fast and coordinated emergency response helped prevent a devastating structure fire from turning deadly Tuesday afternoon in Eclectic.

At approximately 12:40 p.m., the Eclectic Fire Department was dispatched to the 400 block of Mt. Zion Road following reports of a residential fire. Automatic aid was immediately requested, bringing in additional crews from the Tallassee Fire Department and the Friendship Fire Department.

When firefighters arrived on scene, they encountered a dangerous situation — a singlewide mobile home with smoke pouring from all sides and visible flames coming from a bedroom on the right side of the structure.

Crews wasted no time, launching an aggressive interior attack. Their swift actions successfully contained the blaze to the room of origin and a nearby bedroom, preventing the fire from engulfing the entire structure. Despite their efforts, officials say the rest of the home sustained significant smoke and heat damage, leaving the residence uninhabitable.

According to authorities, the occupants discovered the fire after returning home and were already safely outside when emergency crews arrived — a factor officials say likely prevented injuries or worse.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported among residents or first responders.

With the home no longer safe to occupy, the American Red Cross was called in to assist the displaced occupants with emergency support.

The cause of the fire has not yet been released as the investigation remains ongoing.
