Opelika police arrest man in deadly apartment complex shooting, charged with capital murder

Opelika, AL (BuzzReport) — A 27-year-old Opelika man has been arrested and charged with murder following a fatal shooting Wednesday morning at a local apartment complex, according to authorities.

The Opelika Police Department said officers responded at approximately 10:56 a.m. to reports of an active shooter at Arbor Place Apartments, located at 515 Fox Run Parkway. When officers arrived on scene, they discovered a 38-year-old woman inside a vehicle suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

Officers immediately began life-saving measures, but the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities said a trooper with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA), who was nearby when the call was dispatched, quickly located and apprehended the suspect near the scene.

The suspect has been identified as Marc John Love, 27, of Opelika. He has been formally charged with capital murder, as well as being a certain person forbidden to possess a firearm.

Investigators have not yet released additional details regarding the events leading up to the shooting or a possible motive. Opelika Police detectives say the investigation remains active and ongoing.
