Mobile, AL (BuzzReport) — Mobile Police are investigating a dangerous early morning incident in which gunfire struck a residence and is believed to have ignited a fire, sending one person to the hospital and displacing occupants.

According to authorities, officers were dispatched at approximately 4:27 a.m. on Sunday, March 22, 2026, to the 1500 block of Plover Street following reports of shots fired in the area.

When officers arrived on scene, they discovered a home engulfed in flames. Emergency responders with the Mobile Fire-Rescue Department (MFRD) quickly worked to contain the blaze as residents evacuated the residence.

All occupants inside the home were able to escape without physical injuries. However, one individual was transported to a local hospital for evaluation and treatment related to possible smoke inhalation. Their condition has not been released.

Preliminary findings indicate that multiple rounds of gunfire struck the residence. Investigators believe at least one bullet hit an oxygen tank inside or near the home, which may have triggered or accelerated the fire.

Firefighters remained on scene for an extended period working to extinguish hotspots and ensure the structure was safe. The extent of the damage to the home has not yet been fully determined.

Mobile Police have not released information regarding possible suspects or a motive at this time. Authorities are continuing to process the scene and gather evidence as part of an active and ongoing investigation.

Officials are urging anyone with information about the incident to contact the Mobile Police Department or submit tips anonymously through Crime Stoppers.

This remains a developing story. More details are expected to be released as the investigation progresses.
