Alabaster, AL (BuzzReport) — Authorities have identified the man who was shot during an officer-involved incident Tuesday afternoon in Alabaster as 44-year-old James R. McCarter.

According to officials with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA), the shooting occurred as officers attempted to serve an outstanding warrant at a residence located off Simmsville Road.

Investigators say McCarter was shot during the encounter with law enforcement. Authorities reported that his injuries are believed to be non-life-threatening. No officers were injured during the incident.

Officials have not released the identity of the officer involved in the shooting, and details surrounding the events that led up to the use of force have not yet been disclosed.

The investigation is being handled by the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency State Bureau of Investigation, which routinely examines officer-involved shootings across the state to determine the circumstances surrounding such incidents.

Once the investigation is completed, the agency will present its findings to the Shelby County District Attorney’s Officefor review. Prosecutors will then determine whether the actions taken during the incident were justified under Alabama law.

Authorities emphasized that the case remains an active and ongoing investigation, and additional information will be released as it becomes available.
