Fort Wayne, IN (BuzzReport) — A former substitute teacher in Fort Wayne is facing felony charges after investigators say he sent explicit photos and a video to a female student at North Side High School.

Authorities say Tyler Michael Rush, 30, who previously worked as a substitute teacher for Fort Wayne Community Schools, was booked into the Allen County Jail on March 5. He faces multiple felony charges related to the alleged exchange of explicit material with a minor.

According to court documents, the investigation began on Feb. 3 when the student contacted Rush through Instagram seeking advice about personal issues involving a friend or boyfriend. Investigators say Rush suggested moving the conversation to Snapchat, where the communication allegedly turned sexual.

Police allege Rush sent several nude photographs of himself to the student, including one that showed a black tattoo on his chest, as well as an explicit video. Court records indicate the student also sent an image back during the exchange.

The following day, Feb. 4, the student reported the messages to school officials at North Side High School. Administrators then contacted the Indiana Department of Child Services hotline, prompting an investigation by the Fort Wayne Police Department.

Investigators conducted a forensic examination of the student’s phone and reportedly confirmed the presence of the messages and images referenced in the report.

Rush was released after booking at the Allen County Jail. Court records show he is scheduled to appear in court next week as the case moves forward.

Authorities have not said whether additional charges could be filed as the investigation continues.
