Mobile, AL (BuzzReport) — A Chunchula man was killed early Wednesday morning in a head-on collision involving a Semmes Police Department patrol vehicle, according to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s Highway Patrol Division. Authorities say the crash occurred at approximately 5:43 a.m. Wednesday on Alabama 217 near the 10-mile marker in Mobile County, roughly one mile north of the Semmes city limits. Investigators reported that Mason W. Cure, 33, of Chunchula, was driving a 2000 Toyota Tacoma when the vehicle collided head-on with a 2022 Ford Explorer operated by an on-duty Semmes police officer. According to ALEA, Cure was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. First responders pronounced him dead at the scene. The officer sustained injuries in the collision and was transported by emergency medical personnel to a local hospital for treatment. Authorities have not released additional details about the extent of the officer’s injuries. The circumstances that led to the crash have not yet been disclosed. Officials with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency say the investigation into the deadly collision is ongoing.
