ESCAMBIA COUNTY, Ala. (BuzzReport) — District 3 County Commissioner Larry White announced this week that he will retire at the end of his current term, concluding nearly three decades of service to Escambia County.
In a letter released to the public, White said he has formally requested that his name be removed from the ballot for the upcoming election cycle. The Republican Primary is scheduled for May 19, 2026.
“For 28 of the past 32 years, I have served as your county commissioner for District 3,” White said in a press release. “On Friday, February 28, I submitted a letter to election officials requesting that my name be removed from the list of candidates for County Commissioner District 3 in Escambia County.”
White emphasized that although he will not seek re-election, he intends to fulfill the remainder of his current term, which runs through the General Election in November.
“Lord willing, I plan to serve the remainder of my current term which ends after the General Election in November,” White stated. “It is with a heart of gratitude and a lifetime of memories that I announce my retirement as your county commissioner effective this coming November.”
White has represented District 3 for 28 of the last 32 years, making him one of the county’s longest-serving commissioners. During his tenure, he has played a role in overseeing county infrastructure, budgeting, and local development initiatives.
“Serving this community for 28 years has been a great and distinct honor,” White said. He added that he intends to remain engaged in local government matters as his health permits and opportunities arise.
White concluded his announcement by thanking residents for their support and expressing appreciation for the opportunity to serve Escambia County and the State of Alabama.
His departure will open the District 3 seat for new leadership in the 2026 election cycle.
