Mobile, AL (BuzzReport) — Officials say a man unaffiliated with the University of South Alabama is in custody after allegedly entering a campus residence hall and threatening two students and himself with a firearm.
Authorities said the incident occurred at approximately 2 p.m. when the suspect gained access to the residence hall through an externally facing door that had been left unlocked by a student.
According to a statement released by the university, the man confronted two students inside the residence hall and made threats while armed with a gun. The students were able to flee the area safely and immediately contacted police.
Law enforcement officers responded quickly to the scene and took the suspect into custody without further incident. No injuries were reported.
The suspect has been identified as 23-year-old King Diamond. He is charged with first-degree burglary, menacing, false imprisonment, and being a person forbidden from possessing a pistol, according to officials.
University officials have not released additional details about a possible motive or how long the suspect was inside the residence hall before being apprehended.
The investigation remains ongoing. Authorities say additional information will be released as it becomes available.
