Jackson County, MS (BuzzReport) – A 47-year-old man is in custody after deputies say he held an elderly female relative hostage during a domestic disturbance in the Gulf Park Estates community. According to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded Monday, February 9, 2026, at approximately 2:46 p.m. to a reported domestic disturbance and welfare concern at 9228 Barnacle Blvd. When deputies arrived, they discovered that Jeffrey Lynn Nelson, Jr., 47, had allegedly taken an elderly female relative hostage inside a bedroom and was threatening bodily harm to her. Negotiators were able to establish communication with Nelson while the Jackson County Emergency Services Unit (ESU) responded to the scene. After efforts to persuade Nelson to surrender were unsuccessful, ESU members breached the bedroom and took him into custody. Authorities confirmed that no injuries were sustained by either the victim or Nelson during the incident. Nelson was transported to the Jackson County Adult Detention Center, where he is charged with Domestic Violence by Aggravated Assault and Kidnapping. Officials said no bond has been set at this time, pending his Initial Appearance in County Court. The investigation remains ongoing.
