Mobile, AL (BuzzReport) — A fire broke out at Williamson High School’s baseball field Saturday afternoon after a riding lawn mower sparked a blaze while grass was being cut. According to the Mobile Fire-Rescue Department, crews were dispatched to the school just after 1 p.m. following reports of a field fire. Fire officials said the mower ignited dry grass, causing flames to quickly take hold. Strong winds contributed to the rapid spread of the fire, allowing it to engulf the entire baseball field within a short period of time. Firefighters also noted that the grass was already dead, creating ideal conditions for the fire to spread. No injuries were reported. Fire crews were able to contain and extinguish the blaze, preventing it from spreading to nearby structures. An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
