Mobile, AL (BuzzReport) — Authorities are searching for a 36-year-old woman wanted in connection with the homicide of her 5-year-old son after the child’s body was recovered Friday from waters off Lillian Highway in Escambia County, according to the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies were called to the 9500 block of Lillian Highway near San Sebastian Circle around 10:30 a.m. Sheriff Chip Simmons said the child’s body was discovered in Perdido Bay inside a trash bag. Investigators have identified the child’s mother, Jalynda Smith, 36, as the suspect and are asking for the public’s help in locating her. Authorities said the child had not been reported missing prior to the recovery of the body. At this time, no additional details have been released regarding the circumstances surrounding the child’s death or the events leading up to the discovery. The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information on Smith’s whereabouts is urged to contact the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office immediately at (850) 436-9620 or call 911.
