Mobile, AL (BuzzReport) — Mobile police have identified the man found dead early Thursday morning on Smith Street as Thomas Nelson, Jr., 30, authorities confirmed. Nelson’s body was discovered around 3:15 a.m. on Jan. 23 in the 7100 block of Smith Street, near nearby train tracks. Officers responding to the scene believe Nelson may have been struck by a train, though officials say the exact cause of death has not yet been determined. Police emphasized that confirmation will come only after an autopsy is completed, and no additional details surrounding the circumstances of Nelson’s death have been released at this time. Investigators have not said how long Nelson had been at the location before he was found or whether foul play is suspected. The case remains under active investigation.
