obile, AL (BuzzReport) — A Tuesday afternoon altercation on Mobile’s north side has turned deadly, leaving one man dead and prompting an active police investigation.

According to the Mobile Police Department, officers were dispatched to St. Stephens Road near Seale Street around 1:30 p.m. after receiving reports of a fight in a nearby parking lot. When officers arrived, they found a man suffering from injuries sustained during a physical altercation with another man.

The injured man was transported to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries, police confirmed. His identity has not yet been released, pending notification of next of kin.

Authorities say the second man involved in the fight has not been taken into custody and is currently cooperating with investigators. No charges have been announced as detectives work to determine the circumstances leading up to the confrontation and whether any criminal liability exists.

Complicating the response, police reported that while en route to the scene, an MPD patrol vehicle was struck by another vehicle. Fortunately, no injuries were reported to either the officer or the driver involved in that collision.

Police have not released details about what sparked the fight or whether weapons were involved. The area surrounding the incident was temporarily secured as investigators collected evidence and interviewed witnesses.

“This remains an ongoing investigation,” MPD said in a statement, adding that additional information will be released as it becomes available.

Anyone with information related to the incident is urged to contact the Mobile Police Department or submit an anonymous tip through local crime-reporting channels.
