MOBILE, AL (BuzzReport) – A morning of shopping took a perilous turn at a Mobile Walmart this past Saturday when what began as a suspected shoplifting incident rapidly escalated into a violent threat against a store employee. Authorities swiftly responded, arresting a 22-year-old man following a brief pursuit.

The incident unfolded at approximately 8:25 a.m. on Saturday, November 29, 2025, at the Walmart located at 101 E. I-65 Service Road. According to initial reports, a male subject entered the bustling retail establishment and proceeded to a changing room. There, he allegedly donned several clothing items, attempting to walk out of the store with the merchandise concealed on his person.

As the suspect moved back through the store, an alert employee approached him, questioning the concealed items. The situation instantly turned dangerous. The subject suddenly grabbed two baseball bats from a nearby display, brandishing them menacingly and issuing threats towards the employee. The employee backed away from the immediate danger created by the suspect’s aggressive actions.

The armed individual then exited the store on foot, fleeing into the immediate vicinity. Emergency services, having been alerted to the escalating situation, dispatched officers to the scene without delay. Their rapid response proved effective, as the suspect was apprehended a short distance from the store entrance.

Joseph Hart, 22, was taken into custody by officers. He was subsequently transported to Metro Jail, where he awaits further legal proceedings related to the morning’s violent encounter.
