ATMORE, AL (BuzzReport)- In what is becoming a recurring theme for local law enforcement, a traffic stop conducted by officers with the Atmore Police Department late Monday night led to the discovery of a significant cache of illegal drugs and the arrest of two individuals on narcotics trafficking and related charges.

The incident unfolded when Atmore Patrol officers initiated a traffic stop that, upon further investigation, unearthed an assortment of controlled substances within the vehicle. The detailed search yielded a substantial quantity of illicit drugs, including:

  • 35.22 grams of methamphetamine, an amount consistent with narcotics trafficking charges.
  • 7.69 grams of powder cocaine, leading to a charge of Possession with Intent to Distribute.
  • 2.59 grams of crack cocaine.
  • 4.62 grams of marijuana, resulting in a First-Degree Possession charge.
  • 1.83 grams of synthetic cannabinoids, leading to an Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substance charge.
  • Hydrocodone Pills, also resulting in an Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substance charge.

Authorities identified and arrested Amy Carol Chamberlain of Georgiana, and Claudie Ray Portis of Evergreen, Alabama, in connection with the drug discovery. Both individuals face multiple felony and misdemeanor charges stemming from the incident.

This successful bust underscores the Atmore Police Department’s persistent efforts in disrupting the flow of illegal narcotics through the community, with proactive traffic enforcement proving to be a critical tool in these operations. Law enforcement officials continue to emphasize their commitment to maintaining public safety and combating drug-related crime.
