Mobile, AL (BuzzReport) – A peculiar retail theft at a local pet store has been resolved, with authorities apprehending a suspect in connection with the disappearance of two exotic arachnids. On Tuesday, September 16, 2025, at approximately 4:30 p.m., officers from the Mobile Police Department were dispatched to the B&B Pet Store, located at 5035 Cottage Hill Road, following a report of stolen merchandise.

Upon arrival, responding officers were informed by store employees that two Red Rump Tarantulas had been missing from their enclosure. The employees reported that the valuable arachnids had been removed from their habitat, and the perpetrators had fled the scene without making any attempt to purchase them. The exotic nature of the stolen items immediately raised concerns beyond a typical shoplifting incident.

The investigation proved to be swift. The following day, Wednesday, September 17, 2025, at approximately 3:30 p.m., officers were able to locate and detain a subject believed to be involved in the reptile heist. The apprehension of the suspect, identified as Rayjah Johnson, 22, occurred without further incident. Johnson was subsequently transported to Metro Jail, where he is expected to face charges related to the theft.

While the motive behind the tarantula theft remains under investigation, the swift apprehension of the suspect offers a reassuring conclusion to the unusual case. The B&B Pet Store has not yet released details on the monetary value of the stolen arachnids or the specific security measures that may have been compromised.
