Mobile, AL (BuzzReport) – Two individuals were injured and a Mobile Police Department (MPD) vehicle was among four cars struck by gunfire during an early morning altercation on St. Stephens Road Sunday. The incident, which erupted around 3:00 a.m. in the 1600 block, remains an active investigation with authorities releasing limited details. According to a brief statement released by Mobile Police, officers were already in the vicinity of the 1600 block of St. Stephens Road when a dispute between male subjects escalated into violence in the roadway. Shots were fired during the altercation, striking two male victims. Both injured individuals were transported to a local hospital by personal vehicle, a detail that suggests the rapid and unplanned nature of their medical transport rather than waiting for emergency services at the scene. Their current conditions have not been released. The indiscriminate nature of the gunfire was evident as four unoccupied vehicles parked at or near 1608 and 1610 St. Stephens Road sustained damage. Notably, one of the vehicles hit was a Mobile Police Department patrol car, underscoring the immediate danger posed even to parked law enforcement assets in the area. The incident adds to ongoing concerns about late-night violence in the city, particularly in areas with high traffic and commercial activity like St. Stephens Road. The presence of officers already in the area when the altercation began suggests a potentially heightened police watch in that vicinity or a routine patrol that quickly turned into a crime scene. Mobile Police have stated that this remains an active and ongoing investigation. As of Sunday afternoon, no further information, including the identities of the victims, potential suspects, or the motive behind the altercation, has been released to the public. Authorities have not yet indicated if any arrests have been made. Anyone with information regarding the shooting is encouraged to contact the Mobile Police Department. The department is expected to provide further updates as the investigation progresses.
