MEMPHIS, TN – A 22-year-old Memphis man, Victor Peeler, sought in connection with an alleged shooting incident involving Memphis Police Department (MPD) officers, has been taken into custody without incident. The arrest was the result of a collaborative effort by multiple law enforcement agencies.

Peeler was apprehended in the 800 block of Dawn Cove by the MPD Fugitive Unit, the MPD’s Multi-Agency Gang Unit (MGU), and the U.S. Marshals Two Rivers Violent Fugitive Task Force.

The arrest stems from an incident on July 4, 2025, when MPD officers were responding to a disturbance near Peabody Place and Rufus Thomas Boulevard. During their response, an individual in a passing vehicle reportedly opened fire on the officers. Fortunately, officers were able to take cover, and no injuries were sustained.

Investigators utilized surveillance footage from the Downtown Command Center to identify Victor Peeler as the alleged shooter. Following the identification, an arrest warrant was issued for Peeler on twelve counts of Criminal Attempt First Degree Murder and Reckless Endangerment.

Memphis Police Chief CJ Davis lauded the coordinated effort that led to the capture. “This individual showed a complete disregard for human life and the safety of our officers and community,” Chief Davis stated. “Thanks to our partnership with the U.S. Marshals, a violent fugitive is now in custody. These collaborations are essential in building a Stronger, Safer Memphis.”

Peeler is currently being held in custody and is expected to face formal charges in connection with the shooting. The swift identification and capture underscore the commitment of local and federal law enforcement to public and officer safety in the Memphis community.
