10 Shot, 1 Killed in Anderson County Juneteenth Celebration Shooting

Anderson County, SC. (BuzzReport) – violent incident marred a Juneteenth celebration in Anderson County, South Carolina, on Saturday night, leaving 10 people shot and one dead. According to the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office, the shooting occurred during a large gathering in a neighborhood along Scarborough Road after a fight broke out.

The celebration, which had drawn hundreds of people, had remained largely peaceful throughout the day. However, as additional attendees arrived, an argument in the parking lot escalated into gunfire, sending people fleeing for safety.

The sheriff’s office reported that one person, 35-year-old LaPorshia Janae Gray Cobb of Anderson, was killed in the shooting. Another victim was airlifted to Greenville Memorial Hospital, while eight others were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.

Investigators from the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office worked tirelessly throughout the morning, canvassing the area and speaking with witnesses. As of Sunday evening, the sheriff’s Criminal Investigations Division had identified “persons of interest” in the case, although no arrests had been announced.

Over 100 law enforcement officers, emergency medical services personnel, and firefighters responded to the scene on Saturday night and Sunday morning. The Anderson County Coroner, Greg Shore, confirmed Cobb’s identity.
