Mobile, AL – The Mobile Police Department has identified the 75-year-old man killed by officers on Saturday night. Michael Collins of Mobile was pronounced dead at the scene after a confrontation with police. According to the police department, officers initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle in the 3300 block of Dawes Road around 8:45 p.m. on May 31. The stop was made in connection with an earlier report of a man threatening to kill a woman on Scott Dairy Loop Road South. Police said Collins pulled out a gun and threatened to harm himself before pointing it at officers, prompting them to open fire. The incident resulted in Collins being shot and killed at the scene. The Mobile Police Department is investigating the incident.
