MOBILE, AL – A Moss Point, Mississippi man is facing manslaughter charges in connection with a June 2024 traffic collision in Mobile County that resulted in the death of a Lucedale, Mississippi resident. Shawn Kruse, 36, was booked and released from Mobile Metro Jail on Friday following a grand jury indictment related to the incident. The indictment alleges that Kruse recklessly caused the death of 66-year-old John Holyfield by either crossing the center line and/or speeding, leading to the fatal crash. The incident occurred before dawn on Saturday, June 15, 2024, on Airport Boulevard near Roberts Chapel Road, approximately 10 miles outside of Mobile city limits. According to a news release from the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA), Kruse’s vehicle collided with a vehicle driven by Holyfield. John Holyfield of Lucedale was pronounced dead at the scene. Following the crash, Kruse was transported to University Hospital to receive treatment for his injuries.
