Prichard, AL (BuzzReport) – Prichard police successfully recaptured a suspect who escaped from custody Tuesday evening. Trent Anthony Thomas, 24, had been arrested on charges of second-degree receiving stolen property, stemming from a reported incident where a man held a woman at gunpoint in the area of Hale Street and Marengo Drive. According to authorities, officers responded to the scene around 5:15 p.m. and detained Thomas along with two women. A gun believed to have been used in the incident was recovered, which had been reported stolen out of Mobile. Thomas’s arrest was further complicated by an active felony warrant for second-degree domestic violence and burglary. However, during the investigation, Thomas managed to escape from a patrol vehicle due to a malfunctioning locking mechanism. Prichard police quickly sprang into action, setting up a perimeter and requesting assistance from the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office K-9 unit. After learning through social media that Thomas was on the loose, authorities tracked him down to Knollwood Apartments with the help of the Prichard SRT Team and the MCSO Special Operations Division. Thomas was taken into custody and subsequently charged with third-degree felony escape and two counts of chemical endangerment of a child. Lanthia Nicole Gavin, who was found to be harboring Thomas, was arrested and charged with harboring a fugitive. Additionally, officers discovered marijuana in the apartment where two children were present, leading to charges of two counts of child endangerment against Gavin. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are working to gather more information about the circumstances surrounding the incident. The Prichard Police Department has assured the public that the safety of the community remains their top priority and that they will continue to work diligently to ensure justice is served in this case.
