Anniston, AL (BuzzReport) – Mayor Jack Draper has tendered his resignation, effective at the close of business on Friday, May 2nd. In a letter to the city, Draper expressed his gratitude and pride in the work accomplished during his 8 ½ years in office. Draper cited the need to focus on his family, health, and career as the driving force behind his decision. Despite initially anticipating the end of his term in November 2024, state legislation in 2021 extended mayoral terms by one year, extending his tenure. The mayor expressed his confidence in Anniston’s continued progress, stating, “I pray and believe that Anniston will continue to move forward.” Municipal elections are scheduled for August, but the temporary succession plan remains unclear. Draper’s resignation marks the end of an era in Anniston’s leadership, and the city will undoubtedly undergo a transition period as it prepares for the upcoming elections.
