Publix Shooting Suspect Faces State and Federal Charges in Mobile

Mobile, AL – A suspect in a shooting and robbery at a Publix supermarket in midtown Mobile, Alabama is now facing both state and federal charges. Dale Cecil Davis, 66, was arrested on April 21 and is being charged with first-degree assault and first-degree robbery by the Mobile Police Department.

According to police, Davis allegedly demanded money from an older woman at the supermarket on April 19, and when she refused, he shot her in the abdomen. Witnesses at the scene reported that Davis attempted to carjack multiple vehicles in the parking lot, brandishing a firearm during these attempts.

Davis was detained shortly after the incident, but was taken to a local hospital due to a “medical occurrence,” according to police. After being discharged from the hospital, Davis was booked into Mobile Metro Jail.

In addition to the state charges, Davis is now facing federal charges of attempted carjacking and discharging a deadly weapon during a violent crime. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is handling the federal case, and Davis is set to appear in federal court for a preliminary hearing.

The victim of the shooting, whose identity has not been released, was transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition. According to the latest updates, she is now in stable condition and is expected to make a full recovery.

The shooting at the Publix supermarket has left the community in shock, and many are calling for stricter gun control laws. Mobile Police Chief Paul Prine released a statement urging the community to come forward with any information that may help in the investigation.

“We are grateful that the victim is expected to make a full recovery, and we are committed to bringing the suspect to justice,” Prine said. “We urge anyone with information about this incident to come forward and speak with our detectives. Together, we can make our community a safer place.”

The federal charges against Davis carry significant penalties, including up to 25 years in prison for attempted carjacking and up to life in prison for discharging a deadly weapon during a violent crime. The state charges also carry lengthy prison sentences, with first-degree assault and robbery both punishable by up to life in prison.

Davis is currently being held without bond at Mobile Metro Jail. His next court appearance has not been scheduled at this time. The investigation is ongoing, and further charges may be filed as more information becomes available.
