Fatal Shooting Under Investigation at Busy New Orleans Intersection

NEW ORLEANS, La. (BuzzReport)— The New Orleans Police Department has launched an active homicide investigation following a deadly shooting that unfolded late Tuesday afternoon at a heavily traveled intersection in the city.

Authorities say the incident occurred around 5:01 p.m. near the intersection of North Claiborne Avenue and Desire Street. Fifth District officers were dispatched to the scene after receiving multiple reports of an apparent auto accident accompanied by gunfire.

When officers arrived, they discovered a 41-year-old Hispanic man inside one of the vehicles involved, suffering from what appeared to be a gunshot wound to the head. Emergency Medical Services responded quickly and transported the victim to a nearby hospital. Despite life-saving efforts, he was later pronounced dead.

Investigators confirmed that the driver of a second vehicle involved in the incident fled the scene before police arrived. At this time, authorities have not released a description of the individual or the vehicle, and it remains unclear what led up to the shooting.

The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office will release the victim’s identity once proper notification has been made to family members. An autopsy will be conducted to determine the official cause of death.

The shooting has left the surrounding community shaken, as the intersection—located in a densely populated area—is typically active during the late afternoon hours. Detectives are working to determine whether the incident stemmed from a targeted act of violence, a road rage confrontation, or another set of circumstances.
