WASHINGTON COUNTY, GA (BuzzReport) — Authorities in Washington County are investigating a dramatic crash that ended with a vehicle slamming into a local church after a police pursuit in Tennille. According to deputies, the incident began at the intersection of Highway 68 and Highway 15 when a deputy attempted to initiate a routine traffic stop. The driver briefly pulled into a Dollar General parking lot but failed to comply. Instead, officials say the driver re-entered Highway 15 and sped northbound, prompting deputies to initiate a pursuit. The situation escalated quickly as the vehicle continued along Highway 15. Investigators say the pursuit came to a sudden and violent end when the driver lost control after the vehicle went airborne over railroad tracks. The car then veered off the roadway, crossed the front lawn of Tennille Baptist Church, and crashed directly into the building, causing significant structural damage. Authorities identified the driver as 32-year-old Kentavian Washington of Tennille. He was taken into custody at the scene without further incident. Washington is currently facing multiple charges, including driving under the influence, driving with a suspended license, and felony fleeing and attempting to elude law enforcement. Officials say additional charges may be filed as the investigation continues. The Georgia State Patrol has been called in to take over the crash investigation. No information has been released regarding potential injuries or the extent of damage inside the church. The incident remains under active investigation.
