St. Martin, MS (BuzzReport) — The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office is mourning the tragic loss of one of its own after a deputy was killed in the line of duty late Wednesday night while responding to a disturbance call.

According to officials, deputies were dispatched at approximately 11:00 p.m. on April 1, 2026, to the Reserve Apartments in St. Martin following reports of a disturbance. Upon arrival, the situation escalated into an exchange of gunfire involving a female individual at the scene.

Authorities confirmed that the female subject was pronounced dead at the scene. During the incident, Deputy Michael Jimerson sustained critical injuries. He was transported to Ocean Springs Hospital, where he later succumbed to his wounds.

The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation has taken over the case and is actively working to determine the full circumstances surrounding the shooting. No additional details about the events leading up to the gunfire have been released at this time.

Deputy Jimerson had served with the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office for over a decade. He began his career as a reserve deputy in 2010 and was officially hired in 2014. Assigned to the Patrol Division, he built a reputation among colleagues and residents alike for his professionalism, dedication, and compassionate approach to law enforcement.

Sheriff’s officials described Jimerson as a valued member of the department and a trusted friend to many. His death marks a profound loss not only for the agency but also for the community he served.

In a statement, the department extended its deepest condolences to Jimerson’s family, friends, and fellow deputies, emphasizing the lasting impact of his service and sacrifice.
