Mobile, AL (BuzzReport) – The criminal trial of a former Faith Academy teacher and coach accused of engaging in a sexual relationship with a student has been postponed, according to court records. Jonathan Sauers, who previously worked at the private school, is charged with sexual contact as a school employee with a student under the age of 19. The case stems from allegations that surfaced in 2023 and has since drawn significant attention within the community. Sauers was originally expected to stand trial earlier this year, but proceedings have now been delayed. The trial is currently scheduled to begin in September. The charges were filed after the parents of a 16-year-old female student contacted the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office in March 2023. Investigators say the parents reported that Sauers allegedly engaged in sexual contact with their daughter during that time period. Authorities subsequently launched an investigation, leading to the charges against Sauers. The case also led to legal consequences for another school official. In 2024, a guidance counselor at Faith Academy was found guilty of failing to report suspected misconduct after it was determined she had knowledge of an alleged sexual act involving Sauers and a student but did not notify authorities as required by law. Cases involving school employees and students are subject to strict reporting requirements under Alabama law, which mandates that school personnel report suspected abuse or inappropriate conduct involving minors. Sauers has not been convicted, and the charges against him remain allegations until proven in court. The Buzz Report will continue to follow developments in this case and provide updates as new information becomes available.
