HOMEWOOD, AL (BuzzReport) — Authorities are investigating a fatal shooting at Brookwood Hospital Sunday night that police believe was an apparent murder-suicide.
According to the Homewood Police Department, officers were dispatched to Brookwood Hospital at approximately 9:25 p.m. following reports of shots fired. Upon arrival, officers discovered an adult woman and an adult man deceased from gunshot wounds.
Police said no other injuries were reported.
As a precaution, the hospital was placed on lockdown. Communications manager David McKinney confirmed there is no ongoing threat to patients, staff, or the public.
In a statement, Baptist Health Brookwood Hospital said:
“An incident occurred at Baptist Health Brookwood Hospital Sunday evening. Homewood police immediately responded and secured the scene. Out of an abundance of caution, the hospital remains in lockdown, but there is no active threat to patients, team members, or the public. Baptist Health is cooperating fully with authorities investigating the incident.”
The investigation remains ongoing. Police have not released the identities of the deceased or additional details at this time.
